Spain tops FIFA world rankings; US is No. 24
European champion Spain remained No. 1 in FIFA's rankings Wednesday, followed by Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. The United States dropped to No. 24, tops in its regional group. England advanced to No. 10 among the world's soccer elite, moving up four places. Coach Fabio Capello's team fell from the top 10 in July after failing to qualify for the European Championship.

Carlos Ochoa scored two late goals to lead CD Guadalajara to a 3-1 victory over Atlas, while Club America defeated Tigres UANL 3-1 earlier in an InterLiga double-header Tuesday. Guadelajara and America, which tied 1-1 Saturday in Houston, each stand 1-0-1 in Group B first-round action and, with one more game remaining, have the inside track on advancing to the next round of the tournament.

Salvador Cabanas snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal on the final play of the first half and Robert De Pinho added an insurance goal on a penalty kick to lead Club America to a 3-1 victory over Tigres UANL in an InterLiga match Tuesday. America improved to 1-0-1 in Group B first-round action, while Tigres fell to 0-1-1.
