The first game is still about 10 months away, but Women's Professional Soccer has already announced its will expand to at least eight teams in 2010 with the addition of a franchise in Philadelphia. WPS commissioner Tonya Antonucci made the announcement Tuesday in what was a busy month for the league.
Microsoft to sponsor Seattle's new MLS team
Microsoft will sponsor the new MLS team in Seattle. The Seattle Sounders FC will be sponsored by Microsoft and Xbox Live 360, the team announced Wednesday. Microsoft will pay a reported $20 million over five years. Microsoft executive Robbie Bach said the growth and global scope of soccer enticed the company to get involved with sponsoring a sports franchise.

The Women's Professional Soccer (WPS), which begins its inaugural season next year with seven teams, is planning to expand to Philadelphia in 2010. Franchises will begin play next April in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis and Washington, D.C. An eighth team could be added for that debut season.
