Brazil defeated Ireland 1-0 Wednesday in an exhibition that served as the beginning of the South Americans' preparation for the Beijing Olympics. Robinho scored the deciding goal in the 66th minute when he sidefooted a ball through the legs of Lee Carsley and past diving Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given.

Germany became the first team to qualify for the European Championship after a 0-0 draw Saturday against Ireland. Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann, returning from a monthlong injury break, repeatedly denied Ireland in the second half. The German defense cleared two Irish corners in the final seconds of injury time.
