Brazil minister praises IOC after FIFA criticism
A Brazilian minister says she would prefer FIFA to act more like the International Olympic Committee in its dealings with the country. Planning Minister Miriam Belchior was responding to comments by FIFA President Sepp Blatter, who reportedly said Friday that he wanted to see actions and not only words from Brazilian officials as the country prepares to host the 2014 World Cup.

Granada coach banned 4 games to start new season
Newly promoted Spanish club Granada will be without coach Fabriciano Gonzalez Penelas for the first four games of the new season due to a suspension. Gonzalez Penelas was sent off in the closing stages of Granada's 1-1 draw at Elche on Saturday for protesting a decision by the referee's assistant and subsequently grabbing the official with both hands after entering the playing field.

Granada won promotion to La Liga on the away goals rule after drawing 1-1 in Elche in the Spanish second division playoff final, second-leg on Saturday.

Granada is back in Spain's first division for the first time in 35 years after beating fellow second-division Elche to earn promotion on Saturday. Granada eliminated Elche from their playoff series on the away goals rule in a 1-1 draw. Granada hasn't played in the topflight since the 1975-76 season.

Landon Donovan expects the United States men's national soccer team to be on its game when it resumes Gold Cup play against Panama. Noting there's a history of close games between the teams in the tournament that determines the champion of North and Central America and the Caribbean, Donovan stressed the favored Americans can not afford to overlook their next opponent on Saturday night.

Ronaldo's career with Brazil's national team came to an emotional end as he was given a send-off during Tuesday's friendly game against Romania. The striker made a cameo appearance in the game from the 30th minute until halftime, when he was honored in a ceremony that recognized his contribution to the 'Selecao'.
