Vancouver Whitecaps striker and second overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft Darren Mattocks was hospitalized with burns to his upper right arm and shoulder in an unexplained dinner preparation accident over the weekend.
From the CBC :
The MLS team said the accident occurred Sunday but did not say in a release exactly how the 21-year-old Jamaican forward burned himself.
The team said he had been admitted to a local hospital and was "being assessed and treated."
"It was an unfortunate accident, but Darren is handling everything well and remains in good spirits," Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie said in a release.
"We will have a better understanding on the recovery time and course of action later in the week, but we fully anticipate Darren to make a complete recovery in due time."
Of course, people burn fingers and hands while cooking all the time, but how one burns their shoulder while fixing a meal remains a mystery. Luckily, Mattocks will be OK and will probably just stick to using the microwave in the future.
Meanwhile, Valencia's Ever Banega, who ran himself over with his own car in February , is just happy that Mattocks has people talking about a new strange footballer injury.

| Chelsea has released reserve-team midfielder Jacob Mellis after he admitted setting off a smoke grenade at the club's training ground. The Premier League club says it made the decision after a "full and thorough" investigation into the incident, which took place on March 2 when Chelsea's training complex in Cobham had to be evacuated. |

Chelsea announced Tuesday they have sacked a player who let off a smoke grenade at their training ground. The Blues said they had "parted company" with 21-year-old Jacob Mellis, who played once for the first team, following a "full and thorough" investigation...

A smoke grenade went off in Chelsea's Cobham training complex earlier this month, forcing reserve, youth, and academy team players to be evacuated from the dressing rooms. An internal investigation was launched by the club and now, the Daily Mail reports that two reserve team players have admitted to being behind it .
Chelsea have kicked out midfielder Jacob Mellis after he admitted setting off a smoke grenade and causing a full-scale evacuation at the club's Cobham training ground.
Mellis made his first-team debut in the Champions League last season, but was told he had no future at the club during a disciplinary hearing.
Team-mate Billy Clifford has escaped with a fine after admitting he brought the grenade into the training centre.
Mellis, who joined Chelsea from Sheffield United in a £1 million in 2007 and has 21 England youth team caps at various levels, was likely on his way out from the club anyway. He was on trial at Burnley last week.
Anyway, this still proves that Mellis and Clifford would've been better off blaming the incident on Ashley Cole -- the guy who went unpunished for accidentally shooting an intern with an air rifle last year at Cobham. Which is a place that is apparently just like a Call of Duty game. |

| Serbian police are investigating who hurled a hand grenade last week into the yard of the house owned by the mother of Dragan Stojkovic, the coach of Nagoya Grampus and a former Red Star Belgrade and Marseille player. Police said Monday the hand grenade exploded only several meters from the main entrance into the Stojkovic family house in the southern city of Nis. |
