Soccer Headlines
Hoops struggling to regain form
Opening the season with a four-game unbeaten streak was enough to thrust FC Dallas to the top of the Western Conference. However, since that fantastic start, the Hoops have gone without a win in their last three.
Real hold off FCD in see-saw affair
Real Salt Lake continued to show they have what it takes to win on their home field, a late Kyle Beckerman goal giving them a 2-1 victory against FC Dallas on Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Talented Dallas presents challenge for RSL
The challenge is much stiffer for Real Salt Lake as they look to claim their second home victory -- and second victory overall -- when they take on FC Dallas Saturday evening at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Hoops hoping to reignite attack
It's no great surprise around MLS that FC Dallas has greatly improved defensively, but while the Hoops have been solid in the back their attack has sputtered as they have failed to find the back of the net in their last two games.
Training regimen gives Hoops edge
Last year, FC Dallas head coach Steve Morrow began using the Michael Johnson Performance Center as a way to supplement his team's fitness and conditioning program.
FC Dallas fill needs from within
With long-term injuries to David Wagenfuhr and Alex Yi hitting FC Dallas this season, FCD head coach Steve Morrow had two open spots on his 18-man senior roster.
Wallace responds well to surprise start
On Friday, Anthony Wallace headed to San Jose with the rest of the FC Dallas traveling contingent, thinking the only action he would see on the field would be in the reserve game between the Hoops and Earthquakes on Sunday.
Rocha's versatility benefiting FCD
Andre Rocha's ability to shift to different positions in the FC Dallas midfield gave the Hoops a big lift with injuries keeping Dax McCarty and Bobby Rhine on the sidelines.
Conmebol to appeal FIFA ban on high-altitude play
Nine nations from the South America's soccer confederation will urge FIFA's executive body to exempt the Bolivian mountain city of La Paz from its ban on international matches played at high altitude. FIFA's executive leadership is to meet May 27 in Sydney, Australia, for a regular session at which Conmebol president Nicolas Leoz is expected to lead appeal efforts.
Arsenal scores late to beat Everton
Arsenal needed a late header from Nicklas Bendtner to beat Everton 1-0 Sunday in the English Premier League. Bendtner jumped to head a cross from Armand Traore past American goalkeeper Tim Howard in the 77th minute. The win gives Arsenal a chance to overtake Chelsea for second place and an automatic spot in the group stage of next season's Champions League.
