Before Chivas had to contend with the Copa Libertadores debut of the Busquets Peek , they first had to protect themselves from kick to the junk. In the 89th minute of their 2-0 win over Toluca last weekend, 17-year-old Carlos Fierro (who is somehow allowed to wear No. 104) challenged Edgar Duenas for a ball and hooked his leg inside the Toluca defender's.
Duenas did not appreciate this leg-lock defense, so he pulled off a spinning crotch kick in retaliation. That earned him a straight red card while Fierro came away with a yellow.

The Busquets Peek -- a move in which a thespian footballer feigns a blow to the head then takes a sneaky look around for the ref once on the ground -- may have been perfected by Sergio Busquets and imitated … Continue reading →

Zlatan Ibrahimovic helped Milan go four points clear in Serie A last Sunday in a 2-0 win over Lecce, but events on the field were overshadowed after the match when the Swede exchanged angry words with Sky Sports journalist Vera Spandini, resorting to the schoolgirl playground tactic of flicking his hairband at her .
The Rossoneri were quick to insist that the spat had been resolved, but with no official apology forthcoming from the hair accessory-launching striker, club vice prez Adriano Galliani has followed up with a gesture that perfectly embodies Ibra's unbridled egotism. Translated from calcioline.com :
Galliani has made sure the Sky presenter will be delivered a bouquet of 19 roses: one for each of Ibrahimovic's Serie A goals.
Nothing says sorry like a married man having roses sent to another lady via his employer in a gesture that ensures she is aware of how awesome he is. |

Though Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has largely shed his reputation as a diver over the last few years, old habits returned during Wednesday night's Champions League round of 16 second leg match against Napoli.
Drogba, who scored the first goal in Chelsea's 4-1 extra-time win that allowed them to advance to the quarter finals on a 5-4 aggregate score, feigned getting hit in the face by Salvatore Aronica and fell to the ground clutching his face. Then, in a bit reminiscent of Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets' infamous peek-a-boo routine against Inter two years ago, Drogba opened his eyes to take a sneaky glance to see if the ref was watching.
Here's Busquets and Drogba in a side-by-side comparison...

Love -- Christina McHale, the rising 19-year-old phenom from New Jersey, upset world No. 3 Petra Kvitova on Sunday night at the BNP Paribas Open, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. She is now 4-7 in her career against top 10 players, a record which includes a victory over Caroline Wozniacki when she was No. 1. McHale was already the first American seed at Indian Wells since 2008 and is hoping to become the first quarterfinalist for the US since Lindsay Davenport did it the same year.
15 -- There's a stomach flu going around Indian Wells and it has felled Vera Zvonareva, Gael Monfils, Vania King and Jurgen Melzer, among others. I'll spare you the details that have been shared by some players on Twitter and simply say that it doesn't sound very fun. Roger Federer told reporters he had a fever, but didn't think he had the same bug that has been going around.
30 -- Michael Llodra cursed and used a racial epithet toward a fan during a three-set loss to Ernests Gulbis. Frustrated during the match, the Frenchman threw his racquet, hit a ball out of the court and yelled, "f------ Chinese" to a fan in the front row. For this, Llodra was fined $2,500 by the ATP. What a cowardly move by both Llodra and the Tour.
40 -- Milos Raonic spoke about his upcoming Tuesday match against Roger Federer:
"I think we're both going to be trying to do the same thing to each other, which is pretty much dictate. He's probably the best guy to ever do that. It's going to be a great match for myself and I'll try to make the most of it. I know priority number one is going to be try to take care of my serve and build from there. Hopefully I'll have a few opportunities, and hopefully make the most of [them]."
Game -- On tap for Monday: Matches featuring Novak Djokovic, Andy Roddick, Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki and, in the featured night match, Ryan Harrison. |

Since Sergio Busquets was actually booked for diving back in November, it's all gone a bit haywire for him. Barcelona are 10 points behind Real Madrid in the table, he suffered a real injury that looked pretty nasty and during Sunday's 2-0 win over Racing Santander, he almost had his ankle snapped in the 23rd minute when Khouma Babacar stomped on it.
Babacar earned one of Racing's six yellow cards for that and Busquets did play the rest of the match, but that's two legitimate reasons for falling down and clutching himself in one season. We may have entered another dimension. |
