Adrian Luna's first-half free kick gave Uruguay a 1-0 victory over Colombia on Monday in the opening game of the second round of South American qualifying for the Under-20 World Cup. Luna scored in the 42nd minute on a thundering free kick from 25 meters. In late matches Monday, Argentina was to face Ecuador and Brazil to play Chile.

Ecuador and Colombia joined Brazil on Friday as the teams to advance from Group B to the second round of South American Under-20 World Cup qualifying. Ecuador defeated Bolivia 3-1 to finish with seven points, following Brazil which had already advanced with 10 points. Paraguay needed to beat Colombia to advance, but the draw meant Colombia finished on five points, Paraguay on four and Bolivia one.

Ecuador clinched a place in the second round of South American Under-20 World Cup qualifying by defeating Bolivia 3-1 on Friday. Goals by Walter Chala, Marcos Caicedo and Edson Montano meant Ecuador finished with seven points from four games in Group B and joined Brazil, which had already advanced. Bolivia finished with one point.

Chile defeated Venezuela 3-1 on Thursday to advance to the second round of South American qualifying for the Under-20 World Cup. Chile completed play in Group A with six points in four games and joins Argentina, which has already advanced. Venezuela finished with three points and was eliminated. Brazil has 10 points and leads Group B, which ends group play on Friday.

Henrique's goal in the 24th minute gave Brazil a 1-0 victory over Ecuador on Tuesday that pushed Brazil further ahead in Group B of South American qualifying for the Under-20 World Cup. In Tuesday's other match, Colombia defeated Bolivia 2-1. Camilo Franco scored in the 20th minute and Andres Escobar added the second in the 37th.

The Manchester City forward has long had disciplinary problems, but having been recalled to the Azzurri squad, he has vowed to be on his best behaviour in Poland and Ukraine
