Brazil sets friendlies with US, Mexico, Argentina
Brazil has announced it will play international friendlies this year against the United States, Mexico and Argentina. Timbers sign Richards as 'homegrown player'
The Portland Timbers have signed forward Brent Richards under Major League Soccer's homegrown player rule. The native of Camas, Wash., has played with the Timbers' U-23 development team for the past three seasons, scoring 26 goals and 12 assists in 37 matches. In 2010, the U-23 Timbers won the USL's Premier Development League championship with a 20-0-0 record.

The Belgian soccer club Beerschot apologized to Japan's Eija Kawashima on Tuesday after some of its fans taunted the goalkeeper with jeers of "Fukushima, Fukushima" during a league game last month. The referee interupted the game against Lierse until the taunts about Japan's nuclear power plant disaster in March stopped.

Uzbekistan and Japan draw 1-1 in WCup qualifier

Shinji Okazaki scored a second-half equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw for Japan against Uzbekistan in a World Cup qualifier on Tuesday. Bahodir Nasimov headed the ball on for Server Djeparov to fire past Japan goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima from 10 yards (meters) out after eight minutes. Okazaki equalized with a diving header in the 64th from Atsuto Uchida's pinpoint cross.


Colombian soccer players delayed by Irene
Members of Colombia's national soccer team finally made it to the U.S. for two exhibition games after being delayed by Tropical Storm Irene.
