| Former France midfielder Alain Giresse is the new coach of Mali. The Mali Football Federation announced its decision on Tuesday. The 58-year-old Giresse coached Gabon at the African Cup of Nations in January. He starred for France at the 1982 World Cup, and had been touted recently in the media as a candidate to replace France coach Raymond Domenech after the World Cup. |

| African champion TP Mazembe of Congo slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat at Rwanda's APR in its African Champions League last 16, first leg match in Kigali. Substitute Albert Ngaboyisibo scored in the 88th minute to secure victory at the Amahoro Stadium on Saturday. Egypt's Al Ahly, the six-time winner, was also on the wrong end of an upset, losing 1-0 to Zimbabwean champion Gunners FC in Harare. |

| Defending champion Egypt has been drawn in the same qualifying group as South Africa for the 2012 African Cup of Nations. Egypt and this year's World Cup host were paired in Group Seven on Saturday for the tournament co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The 44 teams were separated into 11 groups and will compete for 14 places. |

| The Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed an appeal from the Togo soccer federation to be included in the qualifying draw for the African Cup of Nations. Sport's highest court made the decision Thursday, two days before the draw in Lubumbashi, Congo. The 2012 tournament will be co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. |

| Gabon and Equatorial Guinea will waive tough immigration restrictions and adopt a joint visa when they co-host the next African Cup of Nations in 2012. The tournament will be played in the Equatorial Guinean cities of Malobo and Bata along with Gabonese cities Libreville and Franceville. A new stadium is being built in Libreville. |
