Morocco scored a second-half goal to beat Niger 1-0 in the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday in an uninspiring match between two teams already eliminated from Group C. Younes Belhanda fired into the roof of the net from Marouane Chamakh's pass in the 79th minute to seal the win for Morocco and avoid the ignominy of finishing last in the group.

Gerets' talented Morocco team arrived as favorite to qualify from Group C only to lose to North African rival Tunisia and then concede a goal deep in stoppage time in a 3-2 defeat by underdog Gabon and exit the tournament in humiliating fashion.
